First Landing~

Posted: October 31, 2005 in Uncategorized

 I landed and I lived!!

Waking up at 0600, that’s pretty DAMN early for me!  For the first sortie today, I did 2 Touch and Go and 1 Landing~ For the second one, 4 Touch and Go and 1 Landing~  The instructor said I did pretty well and we’ll do it again on wednesday. Landing is a bit easier than I expected, but still very hard to do it perfectly. But hopefully with more practice, I’ll master it somewhere down the road.  So that ends the exciting morning. Now I do my laundry and wait for mass brief at 1700.

Touch and Go – A touch and go is basically land the aircraft on the runway, then apply full power to take off again.

Drizzling Saturday

The weather sucks today, but after staying in school for a whole week, I HAVE to go out… Walked over to the car rental place around 12, it’s already closed with an EMPTY lot… ALL THE CARS are all rented out… But that is not enough to stop me from going out!   We were going to Elizabeth for a quick shopping trip, but we ended up in Adelaide doing some grocery shopping and dinner. We then went to shoot pool for an hour and a half. It wasn’t exactly a fun-filled day, but it was a good day~   But on the way back to the train station, I realized that we forgot to buy kimchi… The main reason why we went to Adelaide…  Oh well, there’s always TOMORROW!

I did find this interesting drink they sell at the convenient store though~ it’s really cute~

Well… Viv asked me to help her for the promo picture in the ALE News. So tracing a picture shouldn’t be that hard.. hehehe~  Check it out…

Going to the CAL12 graduation in a bit… Hopefully it won’t be one of those long ass ceremony where all the old geeks stand up and talk for 30 minutes each…

CAL12 Graduation…
The graduation ceremony was pretty cool~ The video they prepared was very good, it was a compilation of all the pictures since their ground school and some videos from their training. I was sitting there, thinking, it all seems like a dream, a distant dream. But in reality, 9 months is not that far away… There are much more needed to be accomplished and lots of hard work ahead… 9 months… Good luck to all of us!

Emergency Spin Recovery…

Posted: October 27, 2005 in Uncategorized
Pink Form: A form filled out by the instructor to request for additional sorties to complete a lesson. Approval by the Chief Flying Instructor is needed. But this is overfly which means, additional hours that exceed the set time to complete that lesson.

Today’s first sortie was to finish off stalling practice. The last thing to be covered was Emergency Spin Recovery. But since we are not allowed to do spins in TB10 (it’s not certified for it), the instructor just induced a severe wing drop… The first one was pretty damn scray, basically, the aircraft tilts to one side, about 70 degrees, feels more like 90… and for the recovery, we need to lower the nose.. so it feels like we are going straight down towards the ground We practiced that for a few times, and I managed to hold my lunch down in the stomach…

The second sortie, I started circuit. Basically a Circuit is a pattern that we have to fly around the airport to wait for our turn to land… It sounds easy, but there are many things need to be done, and checked and be aware of.  But at the end of the day, my instructor told me that I did pretty good for the two sorties today, we’ll continue next monday.  I don’t really feel like I did really good, but if he says so…

After dinner, btw dinner sucked again, all the CAL courses gathered at the mess for a brief meeting with Captain Wong. Mostly on rules and regulations of our training here, such as no drinking 12 hrs before flight, no gambling and stuff… So that concludes another exciting day here in Adelaide…

10 Minute Mass Brief…

Posted: October 26, 2005 in Uncategorized
Jerry, our student wellfare officer, came in this morning aroung 0800 to do the monthly room inspection. He went into our bathroom and said, "you sure boys live in here?"  Anyway, after he left, I fell asleep around 1100 and woke up at 1400

the 1700 mass brief was delayed cuz the instructors were having a meeting. Today’s breifing was on CRM, Crew Resource Management. Basically it’s about communication between crew. The instructor came in apologizing for the delay and started blah blahing on culture and stuff… after 10 minutes, he signed our folder and ends the class…

Let’s see if there will be even more exciting news to report at our own weekly meeting at 2000

Wingdrop is SCARY…

Posted: October 25, 2005 in Uncategorized
Finally! Today I flew my first sortie since the 14th, and our AIREX today was Stall. It’s not as scary as I thought it would be, but the wingdrop part was not something you would want…

I was only scheduled for one flight today, but this morning, my instructor added another one at 1330, and good thing Jay saw it on TV (Channel 1 of our TV is our flight schedules), and woke me up at 1200. Thanks Jay!  After my first flight, I got a 10 minute break and started the briefing for the 1600 flight. Afterwards, I went to get the keys to go out and do preflight check, but the aircraft I was scheduled to use is not back yet, so the instructor changed us to YTP, which is a long walk to the other side of the control tower. As I was signing out the keys, the pilot of YTH, the one we were originally scheduled to use is back, so I switched keys and headed out… We were doing all this in a hurry because my instructor (Mark Lines)  don’t want me to be late for the mass brief at 1700. So I headed out to the aircraft, as I stick the key in to open the cockpit door, it won’t turn After several tries and thinking that the damn this is broken, I realized… I am in front of the WRONG aircraft… So I ran back to the other side of the airfield, finding my instructor standing there, waiting. When he saw me, he just said, don’t worry, we were stretching it anyway. Let’s do this some other time…

Over all, today was a good day, even the dinner at the mess today was pretty good too~ However, the China Airlines ppl decided to move up our "meeting" to tonight, so I have to go in and meet up with the captain of AB6 later I think… Hope I won’t get yelled at for having a pink form this early in my flying career…

2200 Update: The meeting with 王教官 went well~ He even offered me a cigarette, and won’t take no for an answer… hahahaha~
