I’m Melting

Posted: December 30, 2005 in Uncategorized
It was 42 degrees today…   The wind was warm…  Good thing we are in ground school today~   But!  The AC broke in the afternoon… and man… it was warm…  This weather really sucks… We can’t fly if the temperature reaches 40 degrees, since.. 1. There are no AC in the cockpit.  2. The airplane simply just won’t climb in this heat.

Since today is Friday, and it is the last day of school for 2005, our language instructor let us out 30 minutes early~  After I got home, I started to watch Keroro, which btw is very funny and very cute~  Then I fell asleep…  When I woke up, it was already almost 8pm… and it was quiet outside so I thought everyone left to eat dinner downtown without waking me up…  Then… I realized… everyone in our house is asleep too…

Tomorrow is December 31st, 2005.  The last day of the year.  I have to wake up early for my 0800 solo flight to the Training Area for the first time to practice PFL, Steep Turn, and Stall.  Probably should go to bed now…

Happy New Year to all~

Day 122

Posted: December 28, 2005 in Uncategorized

Few more days left in this year…  It’s the 122nd day since I’ve been here in Australia, the land of "nothing"… Actually… it’s not fair to say that… I learnt today that there are over 20,000 species of "flies" here in Australia…

122 days.. seems like a long time… but still got about 7 more months to go…  that’s more than 200 days left…  So anyway, what have I done this year?  Hmm… pretty much… nothing… well… nothing is something…  So I guess I didn’t waste my life away…

Tomorrow is another flying day… let’s hope it’s not another one of THOSE days again…

It is Another One of Those Days

The weather today was… Really Weird It was hot.. 39 degreesCloudy Very windy… and then thunder and lightning and rain So you should know what happens next…  My solo circuit, was, of course, cancelled

But… the ever changing weather requires me to check the schedule every 30 minutes… and of course… nothing did happen…  Then, at 1700, all of us were waiting for mass brief… and of course… it got cancelled…

That was my day…

It’s One Of Those Days

Today was… One of THOSE days… Scheduled for 1215 Solo Circuit, was standing by the hangar at 1130 waiting… and waiting… finally, the aircraft came back at 1240… by the time I finished pre-flight and all the other crap, the ATIS said that start clearance is required for circuit operations So I called Parafield Ground, and they denied my request and told me to expect a 30 minute delay  I ain’t gonna wait 30 minutes in the cockpit in this heat!! So I went inside and told my instructor, and he said… well, let’s cancel it and move it to 1600 So I go back out to tie it down and by the time I got back, my instructor said… they just cleared you for circuit… they were shinning the green light at you from the tower…. Shit…

at 1515, I was at the hangar again… waiting… and waiting… then… the airplane came back at 1645  Just as I was deciding if I should go since I have another sortie at 1830, there’s no way I can make it back by 1745  My instructor and Nacho from CAL14 came back and parked right next to me…  So I asked my instructor what to do, and of course… Cancel

Finally at 1830, I started the engine on time, and started my first and last sortie today…

Anyway, so I missed lunch and dinner, so I went over to the mess to make myself a "Peanut Butter & Banana & Jelly Sandwich".  Below are the pictures of my sadwich~  Then there’s this thing called "Crumpet"… it’s… not English Muffin, not Pancake (which we get in packages of 6) nor Waffles… It’s a strange little thing.. but I like it~ It sort of tastes like… hmm… Crumpets  Oh yeah, and there’s also this thing called Vegemite, it’s made with yeast leftover from brewing beer and some other veggie stuff… It’s black, and salty, kind of like… 保衛爾… but nasty tasting… However it’s like the most beloved Aussie spread for toasts and stuff… I try to have it once a month… just to see if I have somehow got a change in taste buds, and I’ll start liking it… Just like what I do with Nato納豆 since a long long time ago…  which I still hate…

Merry Christmas

Well~ Today we had our Christmas Feast at the mess at noon~   Not exactly the "traditional" meal I was looking for, but at least there was turkey~  Potatos and Yam, along with a big ass fish and bunch of shrimps~  Us being greedy Chinese, I mean, "Seafood Loving" people, we took lots and lots of shrimps~  Mr. Eng, our flight training manager came to school and chatted with the CAL courses.  Then afterwards, he took some of us to two Vietnamese markets close to school so we don’t have to go all the way downtown for our grocery shopping~

For dinner we went to 頂好 for dim sum, cuz only Hard Working Greedy Chinese Restaurants are open today~ And it’s also Russ and Titus’ birthday today~  And ppl from Cathay were nice enough to drive enough cars to give us a ride home~ Thanks guys!

Christmas Eve

Pretty much everyone slept till noon today~    There’s nothing to do… so we played Counter Strike all afternoon… hehehe~   Then after dinner, which again, sucked, we started our Secret Santa Party~  We all got our gift wrapped in newspaper and use blue marker to circle the alphebets for the name of the receivers~   And I got a model airplane~   Then we went over to the bar to play "Mega Jenga"…How MEGA?  Just look at the pictures~   David lost and had to buy everyone a drink~   then my stomach started to hurt cuz of too much chili oil in my noodles for lunch…  So I come back home to take a dump and now sitting here typing this… So that’s how I spent my Christmas Eve~ How about YOU?

Merry Christmas Everyone!!

The pile of junk looking things infront of the TV are the ~  David is reading the card that was sent from Ryan to all of us~ Thanks Ryan!    And the magazine the JJ is holding is also from Ryan~ That just made our Christmas even more Merry~  That’s how tall the Jenga Tower got~  That guy in the picture is Wilson from Cathay, I think he is a bit taller than me~

Eve of Christmas Eve

Waking up at 0540 Ok… 0555 I was rolling on the bed for 15 minutes, while hitting the snooze button like every other minute cuz I got 3 alarms… Then I walk over to OPS, to find my instructor surprisingly happy this early in the morning… Hmm…  Anyway, so I grabbed the maintainance release and keys and head out to do the pre-flight checks~  Even though it’s only… 0615 in the morning, David, Jay, Betty, Ken and I are all out there already…  and it’s really warm too…   by the time I was taxiing from the Run Up Bay to the Holding Point, I have Betty in the front, then a crop duster, a Chiefton, then me, then Jay, another Grob, and David… All of us waiting for our turn to takeoff…  By the time I got to the training area, the rain clouds have covered the western side, overcast with no visible horizon…  Today’s airex was some Steep Turns, and Unusual Attitude… U/A is basically… an attitude that’s UNUSUAL I’ll use picture to explain next time…

After I got home, I called everyone… well… not EVERYONE  I called my mom in Taiwan, then my grandpa and grandma, uncles and aunts, cousins, brothers, and some friends back in the States… I used up 250 minutes on my calling card… and the amazing thing was, the little cordless phone still have 2/3 of the battery left…

Then it’s off to Downtown Adelaide~  I finally found something for tomorrow’s gift exchange!! And it was a damn good deal~ Was 40 bucks, but on sale for 15!!  Then we decided to all wrap the gifts with newspaper, and use blue market to circle the alphabets for the names.. hahahaha!  Then we had Genki Sushi~ and that was it for today~

The sign in the picture is "Let’s Put Christ Back Into Christmas"  and the half naked guy is suppose to be Jesus
