It’s sooooooo HOT today!!!

My aunt and uncle from San Diego arrived TPE today, so I went out to lunch with them.
There are probably only two restaurant that my uncle would eat around my house…
One of them is 鼎泰豐, the little meat dumpling/bun place…
And the other one is the one we went today, 吳炒手…

My uncle, ever since… I don’t know when, only eats beef and pork.
Yes, nothing with wings, or anything in the water… and lamb is a no no also…
And as for beef and pork… just the meat, nothing else, no ears or intestines of that sort.
Veggies? He only eats a few varieties….
And I found out today, he doesn’t eat rice balls either….

Enough about that… Here are some pictures…

Dan Dan Noodles – Signature dish but…
I like this other place’s better…
P1010110

Wonton in Hot Chili Oil                              Dumplings in Hot Chili Oil
Both I thought was decent, but… still missing something… maybe it’s because I just woke up…
and my taste buds have not yet awaken… The dumplings however, is the first time I’ve had them…
It was… not bad. the skin was probably handmade and was chewy.. as in…. Chinese chewy…
P1010112 P1010113

Steamed Pork over Yams                         Umm.. Chinese Rice Pudding with Coconut
I thought the pork was a bit dry…             This was not bad, served chilled
probably cuz they use all skinny meat…
P1010115 P1010116

Then after lunch, I got myself a popsicle for dessert.
This is a new one called Kali Kali Bar from 7-11.
Why kali kali? cuz outer shell is regular apple flavored popsicle…
but the inside, is plum flavored crushed ice, so it gives you a bit of “crunch”
It’s pretty good I though~

Before I show you the picture… I saw this on CNN the other day…
Yes, you got it right, it really is frozen pickle juice…
From Texas… no wonder…. hehehehe

Here’s the Kali Kai Bar~~
P1010117 P1010118

It is not yellow like the pic on the wrapper and inside is not red either
but it does have a crunch to it. The plum flavor is way more powerful, so you can barely taste the apple.
It’s good overall, cuz I like popsicles~

Well, it wasn’t really a Mother’s Day payback…

Just my mom wanted to see Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull…
And she been on a diet so can’t eat any bread or rice or noodles…
So I thought… Steak… hmmmm… Steak….

Steak had always been one of my favorite thing to eat~
and my favorite cut is the Rib Eye~ Prime Rib will do also~
Sirloin is a bit dry for me, and New York Strip… well… it’s just not Rib Eye…
Fillet Mignon is nice… but… still lacks the fat.. and tendon…
What else… Porterhouse is just… Thick T-Bone… which both I don’t like…
Actually, I like that smaller piece of meat of the T-Bone/Porterhouse cut…
The big piece is… just like sirloin…

Anyway… So we went to Macaroni Grill at Neo 19 next to.. Vieshow Plaza…
No more Warner… Not sure why, but maybe it’s because the owner…
Took down the bridge after they crossed the river… hmmm….
Then after dinner we went to watch the movie, it was not bad, I give it a 3.8 out of 5

So here are the pictures, they were taken with my phone… so… not very good…

Saw these ppl after I got out of the taxi…
not sure if they were poor… or from some 3rd world country…
or if sleep ware is IN… or if they are going to a pajama party…
or if they simply just lost a bet….

The yummy free bread they have at McGrill
Yes, we shall call Macaroni Grill, McGrill from now on….

Anything over Medium Rare is over cooked in my dictionary…
Not sure what Tuscany Style is.. even after I finished…
came with a few grilled asparagus and mashed potato
The mashed potato was YUM~

Today’s weather: Afternoon Thunderstorm…

Anyway, Daniel wanted to buy a bicycle, Eminence EX-5.
But the only place that has one available to see is in Xin-Zhu… so….

We went in his Toyota Prius – the hybrid car…
He says he can get about 20km out of a liter of gas…
So that’s about… umm… almost 80km out of a gallon…
So.. that’s about.. umm… close to 50 miles per gallon…

After we saw the bike and test rode it, he decided to put down an order for a white one.
Then… we went to eat…

This is at umm.. Duck Meat Xu… I suppose the owner’s last name is Xu…
Here are the pics~

Rainy Taipei

Posted: May 26, 2008 in Uncategorized

I really don’t like rainy days… But I prefer this over hot and humid…

I think this is the first time this month that I get to stay in TPE for more than 2 days consecutively…
Nothing too exciting happened lately… Other than… umm…. yeah… nothing…

Taxes, yes, Taxes… I had to pay taxes… I was going to protest against it, but then…
I am afraid that the IRS might chew my ass off… so….
Since I only have one source of income, and not a lot of deductibles….
It only took like… 10 minutes to do it…

Anyway, I guess I’ll post some pics up as usual… just some random pictures from the past few weeks~

These pics from left to right…
Lot’s of airplanes around us, each little diamond is an airplane, and the number shows if they are lower or higher than us
in thousand feet. and the little arrow up means climbing and down for descend.
The middle pic is our ACARS system. It was my Tokyo flight, and the airplane just came back from shipping the goods
for the earthquake victims in China. Flight time was only 2:44.
Last pic… just so Liz will believe me that you CANNOT bring roast duck back…

This was at Narita Airport Cargo Area. The ice cube… It was soooooooo clear!! and it took forever to melt!
You have to give it to the Japanese ppl… even ice cubes… man…

This was from NY to ANC, the nice Big Sis brought us appetizers, Lobsters with Caviar on Cucumber and.. that purple
bitter lettuce thing… oh, and Guacamole in the center…
Right hand picture… Aurora Light…
P1010087 P1010088

This was our cargo from Anchorage back to Taipei. I think it originated from Chicago.. but I could be wrong…
Guess what it is~~~~~ These were stacked pretty tall, taller than me…
P1010089 P1010098 P1010091

Can you see it??
P1010094 P1010095

I wonder… when wii I be able to afford this… probably never…

LA – Las Vegas

Posted: May 15, 2008 in Food and drink, Travel, US

My break for May is officially coming to an end…

Went to LA for a week, spent 3 days in Las Vegas, it was fun~
P1000892 P1000895

The first night at Vegas was exciting, I won close to 1000USD on “Penny Slots”!!!
It was crazy~  However…
The second day… I went from up by a lot… to… minus 2-300 bucks….
Then the third day… I won a bit here and there… and sort of made it back
So the total damage was probably down by 1 or 200 bucks, which was ok~

The new Palazzo hotel was nice, which is a part of the Venetian next door
Sort of like The Hotel to Mandalay Bay, or Encore to Wynn’s…
The only difference is that Palazzo has its own casino~ Where I made my fortune the first night…
P1000907 P1000910

The second day, we went to Wynn’s for buffet, and that’s where I lost all my winnings…
Instead of stop myself from more action, we decided that we hit downtown LV for more~~~
P1000916 P1000947

Haven’t been to downtown LV for a while, and the light and sound show was interesting
We hit almost all the casinos there, and won a bit here and loose a bit there…
Until we all got hungry, and decided to go down to China Town for some snack…
P1000961 P1000976

Third day, after checking out of the hotel, we all went to Bellagio’s for more buffet~
Andy and I got back on the slot machines before we had to leave.
and good thing we did~  We got a bit of our money back, and Andy turned 20 bucks into 100 at the BJ table~
P1010002 P1010009

So the moral of the story is…
No matter how much you lose, as long as you win your last hand, you leave Vegas as a Winner!!
P1010016

The photo album covers all the buffet and… actually, no and… just food.. hehehe enjoy~

Just Another Day in LA

Posted: May 6, 2008 in Food and drink, US

Buca Di Beppo? I can’t remember how to spell, and I’m too lazy to check online…

After walked around in South Coast Plaza (didn’t buy anything at all~)
(oh, opps… I forgot, bought a pair of sneakers…)…
And then, went to Irvine, UCI, and then back to Santa Monica 3rd Street Promenade,
(bought a light jacket from GAP, cuz it was cold… and since when do GAP have stuff over 50 bucks??)
and went to dinner. Been to the one in Pasadena, and it’s the same. Same delicious~

Oh, and at South Coast, we got this Chocolate dipped Strawberry from Godiva, 8 bucks a piece…
YES, EIGHT dollars for ONE strawberry… It’s more expensive then that plate of salad…

So here’s the picture, that fist belongs to Angela, it looks as if it’s just as big…

But putting it next to my face… it looked soooooooo small…..

My ass is really hurting now…

P1000686 This is probably the… most healthy thing I’ve done since… I was born…
Jay, Iron-Leg Lun, and I have successfully rode our little bikes to Dan-Shui and back,
without fainting, bleeding, or hyperventilating… However, my ass is in PAIN!!!!!!!

Anyway, our trip was from my house, to Jay’s house, then to Rao-He Street.
From there, we entered the bike path straight to Dan-Shui…

On the way there, we stopped a few times to rest, eat, pee, drink, eat, pee…
It was about 60km round trip… I’m too tired to go downstairs to take a picture of my odometer… So you’ll just have to trust me on that… Basically, we just rode along the left side of the Ji-Long River,
then cross over to right shores of the Dan-Shui River, and arrive at our final destination, Dan-Shui.

Then after stopping in Dan-Shui for some food and drinks and dessert, we headed back except this time,
we kept on the right side of the river, which in the end, turns out to be about 3-5km less.

Please go check the photo album “Bike Day Dan-Shui” for our exciting pictures…

My ass is really hurting…
