Posted: June 22, 2008 in Food and drink, Just Another Day, Toys, US

This all started earlier this month…
P1010220
(This was in Chicago, our hotel is right at the runway’s end.. or beginning, depends on the season…)

On the flight back from SFO on the 2nd, it was a training flight… that’s not the point… Anyway, the Captain was telling me about this watch he bought, how great it is, and so much cheaper in the US… And then, he showed me… So…….. Here it is……….

It’s a Citizen Eco-Drive – A fancy name for solar powered… The box… nothing special really…
P1010227 P1010228

So here it is, Citizen Promaster Sky Hawk Eco-Drive
P1010230 P1010231

What’s so special? Well, it’s solar powered, and it can adjust the time itself by receiving radio waves transmitted from 3 places, Japan, Germany, and the US. It’s can show 3 time zones simultaneously, in which 2 of the time zones you can switch from the 43 built in cities and UTC located at the 12 o’clock position. Got timer, chronograph, 2 alarms.  And the whiz wheel functions… which I doubt anyone would use… And, it’s cool looking… hahahaha~~
P1010233 P1010234 P1010235

This one I bought long time ago, but never officially put it here.
It’s a Luminox, it’s suppose to be carbon graphite wrapped in really hard plastic…
And besides the really big numbers and dials, and how cool it looks…
It’s got this.. umm.. some kind of a gas… or something… so it illuminates at night… permanently…
Bright too… Go check out their website if you want to know more… Luminox, Ball, and Traser all uses the same thing…

P1010237
P1010238

This is what they look like at night… The Citizen one’s dials are just your regular watch type, after sitting in the dark for a while, the dials will be dim… very dim… the picture was taken after I shinned my flashlight at it for like a minute… and with 8 seconds of exposure…  but the Luminox has the.. umm.. thing… so it stays that bright all the time… and suppose to last 10 years….

MGS4 – Guns of the Patriots

Posted: June 16, 2008 in Toys
MGS4 – Metal Gear Solid 4
The 4th addition to this very very popular series on the Sony Playstaion console…
I’ve been wanting to buy a Playstation 3 since… since the day it went on sale…
Since the debut of the original Playstation, then Playstation 2, I’ve spent countless hours on them…
And being a fan of everything SONY… well,not everything… but close… I just have to have one…
even if it means that I have to sell blood…
So anyway… even though I been wanting to buy one since day one… I’ve been waiting…
Being away most of the time was one reason that I havn’t bought it, since I was afraid that I won’t have much time to play with it…
The other reason was because that two the games that I wanted the most are no where to be found… GT5 and MGS4
Grand Tourismo series have always been my favorite game since Playstation,
and I think if I had put in as much time in books as I have in this game,
I would be more than just a truck driver with wings by now… hahahaha….
But when PS3 came out, GT5 was… absent… then… a year gone past…. and another year….
and Finally, this year, GT5 Prologue, even though it’s only the Prologue to the REAL FULL VERSION, finally hit the stores!!!
So, by then, I knew I have to buy one, it’s about time…. and then…
Konami announced the relase date for MGS4… June 12th….
Another series that kept me away from books and homework… Metal Gear Solid…
played on the Playstations and PSP… (I really sound like a geek now…)
So which one to buy? Damn Sony, blood sucking machine… came out with 3 colors, 4 versions of the same machine…
Black, White, Silver, 20, 40, 60, 80 gigs… What to do… What to do…
Well, as for colors… Silver… not really my taste… White… well… White is for Wii… a
nd since I already own a Wii (which is currently collecting dust..) Black it is!
As for the size of the hard drive.. it really wasn’t a big deal… since 20G and 60G are no longer available…
unless you want to spend like 20K for the 60G version… and 80G is only available in the States… 40G is all fine with me…
Then… When June 12th drew near… Freaking Sony came out with this!!!!!! Mother of God!!! What the hell man??!!!
Special Limited Edition Bundle for MGS4!!!
The special gun metal color, a special limited edition fannypack thing…
the game itself, and a limited edition blueray disc that contains…  who cares? it’s LIMITED EDITION!!!!!
Limite Edition, Collector’s Edition, Special Edition… I am weak agains these phrases…
So… here it is… My Own PS3~ I’m gonna keep this box forever!!!!!!!!

P1010199P1010200
P1010201P1010202
The last picture is the fanny pack that came with it… I didn’t take it out of the bag because… I think I might sell it…. Anyone want to buy??
Anyway, so here it is, my PS3… I have no idea how the game is, or if the graphics are good or not…
Cuz after I bought it… I have to fly here… Anchorage… and then Chicago… then Anchorage again….
won’t be back for a week… So… that’s it for now~~
Here is a MGS4 related video from YouTube… it’s Cyril~ You will be amazed…

06-10 Unexpected Purchase…

Posted: June 10, 2008 in Toys

Well, I was only going to buy a bicycle pump so I don’t have to ride to Jay’s house to pump my tires…

So This afternoon, I called Jay to see if he wants to go shop for a bicycle pump, and he said that he needs to go pick up a bathroom fan for his new house, so I went with him, and then head on to 7-Park to check out the pump. His bathroom fan, btw, is nice… can heat up the bathroom too…

Anyway, so I bought the same one as Jay’s, simply because it’ll fit all multiple umm… heads?? I have no idea what it’s called, and I don’t intend on finding out either…. I guess if you know, you know, if you don’t, you don’t need to know… oh and the big gauge is good for ppl with small eyes like me…

Then after that, Jay got hungry, so we went to pick up some meds for Angela, and then headed to Nei-Hu, cuz he needs to pick up his wife from work. So… We ended up at Costco… And… saw this fan… and… bought it… hence the unexpected purchase…

It claims that it could promote air circulation in the room… but… I have it on right now… I’m not sure if I can feel it………..  Cool thing is it’s got 3 separate fans and can each point in different directions… that’s about it…

Oh, and the blue light is cool…

Dinner with mom, at a supposedly chain-restaurant from Korea… and new flavor from Doritos…

I been wanting to try this place for a while, and today took mom there for the first time.
It’s… well, not bad, not too many selections on the menu, since it’s suppose to be a Dubu House…
It’s got the usual beef, pork, lamb, seafood, combination tofu pot, and a couple of dishes such as…
stir-fry calamari, bbq galbi, seafood pancake, some kind of a omelette…

The menu says, the tofu pots are sets, which includes the tofu pot, rice in a stone thingy… drink (which is just TEA)… and a desert.
the tofu pot was not bad, but I think the tofu is different, not as soft as it should be… the free little dishes, was not bad, especially the tofu, it was very good~ and yes, you can as for more if you want. The BBQ Galbi, it’s just beef, same everywhere… average…  As for the desert, it was tofu flower.. hehehe it’s sweetened with syrup (black sugar?) and pomelo peel. Which was quite good~ not just the syrup thing, but also the tofu flower itself, pretty good~

Anyway, Mom had the combo tofu pot (280), and I had the kimchee pork tofu pot (260). BBQ Galbi (220).
Overall, I think… umm… 7.5 out of 10. Which means… Might go again to try their other stuff someday…

New drink… or maybe it’s not, but my first time seeing it… some kind of a herbal tea with grape…

New flavor from Doritos… Tai-ke flavor… I’m pretty sure it’s a Taiwan limited release….

06/09 New Furniture

Posted: June 9, 2008 in Uncategorized

Just got back from a 48-hour trip from SFO…

48 hours include flight time…

Anyway, the long awaited furniture finally arrive yesterday.. or day b4… well, within the last 48 hours lah…
Mom and I picked it out, here are the pics…

The dinning table, it’s all glass with stainless steel, the glass is curved at the ends, and has a little extra room underneath the table top for some.. storage….  The chairs are also stainless steel frame, the leather.. I’m not sure if it’s real or not… the back of the chair is… umm… kind of like a corset…

P1010152 P1010154
P1010156 P1010157

The sofa, it’s surface is cloth, frame wood, with stainless steel legs/feet… wrapped in… yes, Shiny Fake Crocodile Leather…
It’s not that bad lah… the coffee table has not arrived yet, but it’s kind of like the dinning table, all glass curved so it stands on it’s own with a drawer sorta suspends in the middle… will put up pics after it arrives.. and the old cushions from the old sofa… mom put it next to the window where she dreams to put in a old Chinese wooden opium bed… well… we’ll see… btw, the cat seems to like the sofa.. cuz it’s the only place she sleeps now…

6/4/08 Persian Heaven

Posted: June 4, 2008 in Food and drink, Taiwan

Persian Heaven – Iranian food – Not Middle Eastern, Iranian…

Yeah, Iranians hates to be categorized as Middle Easterners… How I know? hmmm…

Anyway, a while back, I flew with this Lebanese captain, Ayyoub, he loves food and wine.
My kind of people… hehehe… He recommended this place to me during our food chat.
It’s got pretty good food, nice people, and belly dancer~

So tonight, a bunch of us went to Persian Heaven for a treat.
The Chinese name is a direct translation of Persian Heaven.
It’s on the south-east corner of 合江街 and 民生東路三段. Very easy to find.
However… You see that 9-Ball sign in the background?
Someone called me from under that sign and said she can’t find the restaurant…
The first page of the menu says it’s the first Iranian Restaurant in Taiwan~
I’m not even sure if there is a second one…

DSC00851 P1010128

As usual, I made reservation for 730pm… I was there at 725… But… William showed up at 745…
And Liz showed up 5 minutes after… (She would’ve been there a bit early if she hadn’t got lost… hehehe)
The rest… almost 8… PPL Please TRY To Be On Time Next Time!!!
P1010127
P1010132

After everyone arrives, we ordered and was ready for to eat.
L: The soup, it’s umm.. got mushroom and veggies in it… Probably some kind of a pea puree…
R: The salad had cucumbers, onions, and tomatoes… not really sure if there was a dressing… or even olive oil…
P1010134 P1010135

The following dishes did not come until the belly dancer finished her show.
I think it was four songs, for about… 15 minutes? The restaurant does not allow ppl to take pictures during the show…
So… sorry, you’ll have to go there to see it for yourself… I think the show starts at 8 and 845…

Anyway, here’s the food~

L: This was minced lamb with pieces of chicken breast stuck in between~
It was very yummy, it also comes in minced beef version, which we also ordered. Yum too~
R: Beef stew with chickpeas and eggplants in a tomato flavored sauce.
Which also has a lamb version.. Actually, most dishes comes in either beef, lamb or chicken.
P1010136 P1010138

L: Beef Shishilik Kebob, that’s how they spell in on the menu… with a “K”…
It was also pretty good, all the meat, lamb, beef, or chicken, minced or not, are pretty tender, and juicy~
R: BBQ Chicken Drummettes, I did not get a piece, so not sure how it is…
but I heard no complaints, so it’s probably good also. If you like wings better, there’s also BBQ wings.
P1010139 P1010140

L: This was grilled tomato and cheese, just tomatoes and cheese, not very special, not great, not bad…
R: Iranian bread. All the dinner sets comes with saffron rice, but could be substitute with this.
So we had half of the orders with rice, and half with this. Need to pay a bit extra though.
P1010141 P1010142

L: We ordered this veggie dish which has bell peppers, tomatoes, celery, garlic,
onions, purple cabbage and carrots. But… as you can see… it comes as a side dish
to almost EVERY dish…
R: Grilled minced chicken, yummy, btw, the white sauce thing that comes with all the bbq/grilled stuff
is ummm… celery and… not sure… was it yogurt?
P1010143 P1010145

This was Lamb in Herbal Veggie stew, It kinda have a Chinese herbal meds flavor.
I only got to have the sauce, didn’t get a piece of the meat… but again… no one complained…
P1010146

A lot of food~ Oh, btw, the rice, if it was in the states, it would be all golden red/yellow,
not sure if it’s because saffron is more expensive here, (though it is the most expensive spice in the world…)
or the Americans just uses food coloring… either way, the rice was good too~
P1010147

So that’s it, that’s all the food we had tonight, I would say, if we were all REAL men… it might not be enough.
All the sets come with soup, salad, entree, rice, and a soft drink.
I would recommend the Iranian tea, hot or cold, but if you don’t like cinnamon, order coke…

Price, is not bad, a dinner set and a beer, should be around 500 bucks.
They also have shisha, 500 bucks a pop, if you come to my house, 350 hehehehe~
Tha’s all folks~ till next time~
