B747-400

Posted: July 25, 2008 in Toys

It’s been almost a year since I officially checked out and finished my training…

This past Thursday, I did my recurrent CRM training. Watched United 93 again…
Then I found out, I can get free tickets now~~ AND! I put in the application for Home Leave, which allows me to get 8 consecutive days off every month~~ without using my precious Annual Leave~~ yippie!!

So, to celebrate this glorious day, I decided to buy something from the company store~
The Boeing 747-400, model, in two different livery.
One is the Boeing Dreamliner livery, and the other is the original China Airlines livery.
The Dreamliner one is the best looking 744 in the world, well, at least in my mind it is…
And the original livery, with the flag, is the one that took me to LA ever since I was 5… or… 4? or was it 6….

Anyway, here they are~

7/22 Trader Vic’s

Posted: July 25, 2008 in Food and drink, Taiwan

Recently, we’ve been on a search for good burgers…

Before we start, I bought this long time ago… It’s what give the A&F clothes smell like A&F~
P1010427P1010429

Anyway, Alan, Howard and I went to Trader Vic’s for lunch the other day, on a quest of finding the best burger in TPE.
After our Gordon Biersch dinner, they were not satisfied with the burger there, so…
Trader Vic’s is owned by the same ppl who owns Ruth’s Chris, the expensive steak place that Howard will take us next time.
It’s not as expensive as most ppl think and the best part, it’s got a smoking section!!!
The burger there was pretty good, even though it’s Aussie Beef…

Unlike GB, they don’t ask how you want your patty to be cooked and for lunch, it all comes with soup and salad and a drink.
The sampler plate was extra order, and personally, I think it’s not a must hav… You’ll live without ever trying it…
So… Here it is, the pictures…

The sampler                                                         The soup… forgot was it was… chicken or something..

The free bread and a cracker like thing…                 Mustard and ketchup for the sampler

Salt and Pepper shaker                                         Lamp…                 Another angle of the sampler…
P1010436P1010437P1010438

Salad                                                                   Alan’s Noodle King… it has chunks of steak, scallop, and Chinese BBQ Pork

My burger

The burger has avacado, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and cheese        Coffee

Over all, I give it a 4.5, the burger was good, fries were good, and again, SMOKING SECTION!!

It has been a while since I put anything here, not because life was boring, but because I was lazy…

So, here is a summary of July… well, till today that is…

This technically was last month, but… I am too lazy to put up a new entry for it…
It’s a buffet restaurant up on the 12th floor in Min-Yao Department Store… It was well… Chinese…
Hmmm.. On a scale of 1 to 5, I give it a… 3… You won’t miss anything if you never go there…
And if you really have no idea where you want to eat… Go to McDee’s… hahahaha~
It’s really not THAT bad, but there are better choices…

July 1st, went to Singapore… There’s an entry for it… so… NEXT~
P1010396

Went biking to Bi Tan. With Alan, Jet and Wife, Jay and Wife…
It was not too far, but by the time we got there… everything was closed…
So we just stopped at 7-11, had a slurpee and… went home…

July 4th, Independence Day
Went to SFO for my Annual Route Check… Call me a lucky bastard if you wish, cuz I got one of the nicest guy as CP~
Ordered this Really Spicy Cold Noodles for dinner after we arrived. Saw fireworks, but it was nothing compare to the ones I saw at Disneyland for their 50th Anniversary~
DSC00913 DSC00915

July umm… 7th? Went to HK for Visa Run… Don’t ask if you don’t know what it is…
Stayed at The Luxe Manor again, it really is a nice little boutique hotel, you can check out their website for pics…
What’s the web address? Google it please…
DSC00937 DSC00939 DSC00927

July 9th, went to Anchorage, I was on standby and they gave me this flight and took away my HK and LA flight… Bastards…
Anchorage this summer so far.. had been cloudy and rains occasionally, it’s the middle of July, it’s still like 16 degrees… Celsius..
I guess the world really is going to end, Armageddon I tell you!!!!
DSC00947 DSC00948 DSC00954

July umm.. Who cares…
This was at this Japanese IzzaGaya place in the Bistro 98 building. Went with Mom for lunch…
If you plan on going there for sushi and stuff.. don’t bother… It’s not good…
Their cooked stuff however… still not that great… Better off to go to umm.. what’s that other place?
I give it a 2.5… If they let me smoke in there, I’d give it a 3.5… yes, that’s a whole point for SMOKER FRIENDLY! hahaha
DSC00956 DSC00959 DSC00955

Oh, and almost forgot, later that night, a bunch of us went to the new place that opened last month over at Mitsukoshi A11.
Gordon Biersch was the name.. I think.. they have their own beer brewery in Taipei some where, and their food… I like!
Only took one picture all night cuz it was dark… But anyway, this was just a regular cheese burger, a 10 oz beef patty with Jalapeno Jack Cheese on top, I think Swiss or Cheddar was probably be better… Cooked to Medium and it was YUM~ The fries on the side was actually tossed in fresh crushed garlic, so it was REALLY Garlickie!!  I’d go back again, and being a American Food Junky, I give it a 4! too bad you can’t smoke in it… otherwise… 5!!!!

July 17th – My last flight of the month! And it was to~ Bali~~~ hahahaha~
A holiday flight before I start my holidays! Weeeeeeeeeeee~
DSC00976 DSC00963 DSC00971

Today, July 19th. Went to the SYS Memorial… For afternoon tea with my parents…
Who’d guess that there’s a cafe/restaurant inside?
The price is 180 per person, and they have…. a salad bar… really, just salad, lettuce, sprouts, hard broiled eggs, canned corn, carrots… And they also have 2 different soups, 1 Red Bean Soup, and Stewed Fatty Pork Rice… Then, there’re fruits, they have Lychee, Watermelon, Papaya, Grapefruit, Pineapple, and… I think that was it… And a few selection of cakes…
There’s also free soda, coffee and tea… The special thing is that you make your own tea, they have about 10 jars of stuff you can choose from to put into your tea pot, and brew your own.  There’re Go-Chi, Dried Orange Peels, Dried Plums, Hibiscus, Dried Rose buds, and your regular Oolong and Jasmine I think… Oh, there’s also Lipton Tea bags…
I actually would give it a 3.5 cuz for the price, it’s not bad~

So that’s my month so far, I guess I’ll put up the rest of the pics I took this month later… but for now… Dinner time…

7/1 Singapore

Posted: July 2, 2008 in Food and drink, Singapore, Travel

This was my first time in Singapore…

After over a year of flying around, I finally got a chance to fly to Singapore.
The hotel, is.. umm.. Something Roxy Something… Who cares..
Rooms are big, and it’s a smoking room.. yippie~
Anyway, I let pictures do the talking… with side notes of course…

P1010339 P1010342
My room, it’s pretty big, and the outside of the hotel.

I arrived at 4 AM, and so I slept till… 2 PM… So the first thing on the list is.. to EAT!
So Vivian took me to this place… I can’t remember the name of the place… which suppose to have great chicken rice~
P1010351P1010344
This is the shop, just Chicken Rice

P1010343P1010346
This is the sauce… and our coconut…

P1010347 P1010352
Our free soup, it has bitter melon and chicken feet and chicken and pork I think…

P1010350 P1010348
This is the chicken, it’s quite yummy, and the pickled veggies have pineapples in it~

P1010353
This is the building where the shop is located at…

P1010354 P1010355
Now it’s just random shots of the streets…  actually… just Orchard Street…

P1010356 P1010361
It has like a million shops on the street, and I guess if you love shopping…
However, I hear it’s more expensive than HK… so…

P1010362 P1010365
Then we went to the Swissotel Stamford, it’s near… umm… No idea… and we went up to this place…
it’s on the 70th floor, so it’s got a great view of Singapore.

P1010367 P1010369
Streets of Singapore.. I hav to say.. it’s prettier than night view of Taipei…
I’m not sure if you can see it, but if you click on the pic on the right…
You’ll see a street that’s lit up with white lights instead of yellow lights…
That’ll be your racetrack for the first ever Formula One race held at night!

P1010372 P1010374 P1010375
This cocktail is called the Merlion… and of course, Tiger beer~

P1010376 P1010378
More night shots of the city~

P1010383 P1010384
Then we went to check out the Merlion… only to find out that.. it’s under construction….

P1010389 P1010391
You can see the world’s largest Ferris Wheel…

P1010392 P1010395
Merlion from another angle…

P1010399 P1010404
There’s this smaller one and made with porcelain, actually, it’s covered in broken porcelain…
The building is called… Umm… crap.. can’t remember…
Oh yeah, the Fullerton Hotel.. hahaa.. Looks grand…

P1010424 P1010406
Then it’s dinner time… We went to the Maxwell Food Centre…
The locals call these kind of places Hawker Centre… Not sure why…
And the public toilets costs 10 Cents to get it…

P1010408 P1010409
It’s just like any other food court… It was already 9 I think… so many shops closed…

P1010410 P1010423
This was some kind of a clam thing… On the Sign it says Cockle…
it was just water boiled and it was not bad and all that for only 3 bucks!

P1010412 P1010416
And of course, the Meat Bone Soup, but I thought… wasn’t it suppose to be dark?
We didn’t order Popiah, cuz it’s just like the Taiwanese veggie wraps you see in night markets…

P1010414 P1010415
This is Rojak, it’s.. a weird looking and weird tasting thing… Very interesting actually…
It’s got umm… Pineapple, Cucumber, Green Mango, Radish/Pear?, and some kind of fried dough…
All mixed in with a sweet soy sauce, crushed peanuts and a bit spicy thing in it… not sure what gives it’s spiciness…
And of course, a bowl of water for you to drink… I mean, wash your hands after you open up the clams…

P1010418P1010421
Last but not least, Laksa, tastes like… Laksa….
And Carrot Cake with eggs, not bad eating~

Anyway, so that concludes my one day.. well, half day trip in Singapore~
Thanks to Vivian to show me places, and Tommy for the drinks!
I will definitely go back sometimes, because…

I DIDN’T GET TO EAT MY CHILI CRABS LAH!!!!!!!
